Multiple Personality

Multiple Personality Disorder is characterized by the patient is not aware of their problem, or at least it has not developed to their will. This condition corresponds to a process called dissociative identity disorder, and is so named because the person does not feel connected between a person and at different times of their lives.

Decoupling is often a necessary and common for many adults who try to forget a particular situation in your life for a while. In this way, the person is able to continue with an effective life, it operates in its work and family obligations, being a temporary situation and aware, and the result of an effort to move forward.
These reactions could also be called dissociative processes, but are temporary and we quickly reconnected without losing our identity, while we have full knowledge of what's happening to us. Also drugs and alcohol can lead to dissociative-like states, but in this case we are talking about a chemical change.

When the disorder can begin

The Multiple Personality Trastrorno starts early, before age 12, and frequently responds to a traumatic sexual abuse, physical and / or emotional. Disconnection serves to distance or dissociate the traumatic event, such as cheating yourself not to accept the emotional pain.
In the mentality of a child this mechanism works, as they can count on the power of magic and imagination, trying to break what is not pleasant. This is how it develops a dissociative amnesia, losing the memory of what happened, but is registered in the mind and returns to remember the trauma stimuli such as smells, words, colors, sounds, images, tastes, etc..

Multiple personality

In the "multiple personality," the person "forgets" itself and unwittingly becomes the other, often repeating this process several figures, of which there is usually one or two prevailing. What is interesting is that each of these personalities has her own way of being, feeling, thinking and reacting, and even in occasione one does not agree with the other.

The therapeutic treatment is necessary to help the person to survive the mental anguish of having to live in different directions, and to find peace of mind but can not integrate the different personalities into one. The objective is to negotiate the differences and learn to live with them.
